CV & Portfolio Advice

Hey there!

If you’re on this page then either you attended the career talk at Leeds Beckett University in Feb ’16, or you’re just a curious person! Either way, welcome to some free advice about CVs from someone who has seen a lot of CVs!

As I’m a QA Lead at my current employer, I am the person that looks through CVs for applicants for the QA department. I get to see a wide range of applications, with some being amazing and others being… well… not very good. I was invited to share my knowledge with the students of Leeds Beckett University, in order to give them some help when it comes to applying for jobs after finishing their studies. For this, I created a cheat sheet (which is actually 5 pages long), some examples of some really impressive CVs (with personal details removed) and a presentation about creating a portfolio. You can have a look at all of these via this Dropbox link, and download them for your personal use. If you share them around, please let people know where you got them from and refer them back to this blog.

I’m by no means an expert, but I’ve been told that my own CV is very good so I must know something! I hope anyone reading this finds it useful, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask them.
